SHOP & COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS ACT 1958




Apart from various regulations meant to be complied with by a businessman be it GST or Income Tax. Shops and Establishments Act is one of the important Regulation that a business needs to be taken care of.


WHAT IS A SHOP?
Shop means any premises where:
  • goods are sold, either by retail or wholesale, or
  • services are rendered to customers.
A shop however does not include a factory or a commercial establishment

WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENT?

A commercial establishment means a premise where any trade, business, profession or any other related work is undertaken. 

WHY REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED?

Every shop and establishment needs to register itself compulsorily under this Act within 30 days of commencement of work.This registration is mandatory for several reasons, including the opening of the current account in a bank. This Shop and Establishment Act license, forms as a basic license and a proof of your business to apply for other registrations required to run a business in India.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR REGISTRATION

  • PAN Card of Applicant
  • Aadhar Card of Applicant
  • Passport Size Photo of Applicant
  • Two Photos of Front/Exterior including surroundings of Shops/Commercial Establishment 
  • Two Photos of Interior of Shops/Commercial Establishment 
  • Proof of Shops/Commercial Establishment 
  • Other relevant details as called for
